Dr. Elliott J Krane
The "Opioid Crisis" in America. Perspectives of a Pain Physician.
Elliot Krane, MD, pediatric anesthesiologist and professor at the Stanford Medical School, is the Chief of Pain Management. He was formerly Anesthesiology Chief for the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Krane graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Reed College and attended medical school at the University of Arizona. He completed residency and fellowship programs in pediatrics, anesthesiology, and critical care medicine at Massachusetts General and Boston Children’s hospitals.
After medical training, he began his academic career at the University of Washington and the Seattle Children's Hospital. There he and a colleague started the first (some say the second) pain clinic for children in the U.S. 
Dr. Krane holds board certification in Pediatrics, Anesthesiology, Pediatric Anesthesiology, Critical Care Medicine, and Pain Management, and he is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. His research has led to his assisting pharmaceutical companies in developing drugs to treat pediatric pain.
Dr. Krane resides in Menlo Park with his wife Maria Amundson, a Stanford Distinguished Careers Fellow, their daughter, and two Australian terriers.
