South Bay Rotary Clubs Unite with West Valley College for Rise Against Hunger Event
As part of Rotary’s Epic Day of Service, more than 160 volunteers came together on Saturday, May 16, at West Valley College for a highly successful Rise Against Hunger meal-packing event. The volunteers, a vibrant mix of Rotarians, community members, faculty, staff, and students from West Valley College worked side by side to package nearly 30,000 nutritious meals for communities facing hunger around the world. This marked the ninth Rise Against Hunger event hosted by the Rotary Club of Saratoga in partnership with neighboring Rotary clubs. Over the course of these nine events, the collaborative effort has packaged approximately 201,160 meals, making a meaningful impact on communities in Vietnam, Cambodia, Turkey, Nicaragua and the Philippines facing food insecurity.
The event was made possible through generous contributions from the Rotary Clubs of Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Los Altos, Los Gatos, and Saratoga, along with many individual donors whose support made this impactful service project possible.
Rotarians from Silicon Valley Rainbow, Passport Club, Palo Alto University, Los Gatos Morning, Sunnyvale, Campbell, Cupertino, Los Altos, Los Gatos, and Saratoga joined together in a wonderful display of fellowship and service. It was especially inspiring to see students from West Valley College including members of the water polo, swim, volleyball, and soccer teams, enthusiastically participate alongside Rotary members.
The event beautifully captured the spirit of Rotary’s Epic Day of Service, demonstrating what can be accomplished when communities unite with a shared purpose. The fellowship between Rotary members and West Valley College students was especially heartwarming, reflecting the power of service to bring people together across generations.
A special thank you to West Valley College for graciously hosting the event and providing lunch for all volunteers. Their exceptional hospitality helped make the day both meaningful and memorable.
The energy in the room was palpable throughout the event, and it was a powerful reminder that through collective action, even a few hours on a Saturday morning can make a lasting difference in the lives of others.
