On Climate Equity and Justice

Kathrin Winkler is the former Chief Sustainability Officer and founder of the Office of Sustainability at EMC Corporation (now Dell EMC).  She now devotes her professional efforts to helping guide the next generation of sustainability leaders and to encouraging companies to accelerate and strengthen their aspirations for an equitable and sustainable economy.

As an Editor at Large for GreenBiz, Kathrin writes to share her perspectives on sustainability and making change from beyond the corporate walls. She also writes on behalf of a group she co-founded through which veteran sustainability leaders contribute their hard-earned wisdom via mentoring of upcoming leaders, advising NGOs, and advocating for solutions to systemic sustainability challenges.

Kathrin serves on the boards of the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE), a non-profit advancing energy efficiency policies, programs, technologies, investments, and behaviors; Net Impact, inspiring and equipping emerging leaders to build a more just and sustainable world; and the Green Electronics Council (GEC), working with purchasers to stimulate the market for sustainable IT products and services.

Trained by Al Gore as Climate Reality Leader in Denver in 2017, and having served as a mentor in numerous subsequent training events, Kathrin is a member of the leadership of the Climate Reality Project’s Climate Business Working Group, and is an advisor to ClimateVoice.

Kathrin lives in Seattle with her husband Angus where she irks her neighbors by practicing flute.
