You gaze upon a tree
Just some big old tree
What do you see?
What do you think?

We all view the world through different eyes:

DeAnna may see how it helps our climate
Gene may see a wildfire risk
Carol may see colors, shapes, shadows and patterns
Bruce may see a potential for bird droppings on his car
Yan may see a safety hazard from a raised sidewalk
Sheeba may see a chance to compose a beautiful photo
Mayor Chuck may see the risk of a storm blowing it over
Shannon may see her “favorite” politicians face in it
Sangita may see a source for spiritual inspiration
Jim may see a branch to hang a swing on
Marsi may see a source of pipe root damage
Debby may see a tree to climb to get a great view
Peter may see interesting leaf clusters on the ground
Maria may see a photo op for beautiful fall colors
Jenny may see something to inspire a story
And, Barry may see a source for millions of toothpicks

Furniture makers, entomologists, bird watchers, arborists, anthropologists, contractors, gardeners, and countless others may all see that ordinary tree in myriad different ways.

So, what do you think of
When you see a tree?
Is it just a tree? Something to avoid walking into
Something to lean against to tie your shoes
Or rub against to scratch your back
A good source of shade
>A nice part of your surroundings

A miracle of nature
A thing of beauty
A living thing…
Just like you

So much bigger than you
So much taller than you
Maybe, much older than you
Or maybe just…
Nothing at all

Common objects around us
We take them for granted
But they are all part of our world
They are all part of our lives
And they are all seen differently
Through different eyes

Try to recognize that what others see<
May not be the same as what you see
May not be the same as what you think May not be the same as what you feel

So, the next time you see a tree
Even one just outside of this room
Maybe spend a moment

And let your senses inspire your thoughts

amazed
In all that you see
When all that you see…
Is just a tree
